MY STORY – JOAN TESSIER
I heard about “Always An Adventure” while on a trip to Florida. I was using my travel pass from Curves gym, and had a conversation with lovely women, named Dot, who had just moved to Florida from Bow, NH. I told her I was newly retired and liked to walk, etc and she told me about this group in Concord. Also, during the conversation, it turned out that we had a mutual friend, Caryl, who also belongs to the club. I immediately went on the website to check it out and when I got home I called Barbara Hanchett, the person who makes all this happen.
My first outing with the group was to Quechee Vermont to cross country ski. The following week we went to Waterville Valley to ski or snowshoe. I have recently joined the twice weekly Yoga class and it is amazing how the flexibility returns to our bodies with this relaxing and stretching program. So far, I have gone on the train from Exeter to Boston and walked the Freedom Trail; traveled to Sugar Hill, NH for the Lupine Festival: and on several walking adventures in lovely NH locations. I also attended a fun “girl” movie in Concord with 3 other members on a Monday afternoon.
I am trying to tell as many people as possible about Always An Adventure.
So, you might ask… what is it that makes this group something to talk about? It starts with the nominal annual fee to join, followed by the inexpensive cost to go on fun outings to places you haven’t been (and probably wouldn’t get to go to) and most importantly, the people in the group. Both the men and women I have met since I joined in March have been fun, helpful and made me feel very welcome – even though I didn’t know any of them beforehand. It is amazing how much we have in common or can learn from each other.
When I retired a year ago, in order to simplify my life, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t commit to anything long-term for a year. One of the best things about Always An Adventure is you can pick and chose what you do. There are opportunities to do “something” every weekday and even some weekend trips if you chose. But you don’t have to. You can do as little or as much as you want or as fits into your schedule or lifestyle.
I can truly say that joining Always An Adventure has been one of the best things I have ever done for myself. It helps me keep active, keep learning, trying new things and meeting wonderful people. Hope to see YOU here soon.
